Stainless steel. Technical overview of this all-purpose metal
Stainless steel is a group of over 200 steel alloys containing a minimum of 10.5% chromium. Chromium is the key element of stainless steels – it reacts with oxygen and moisture in the environment to form an oxide film on the steel surface that acts as a protective layer against corrosion.
As a consequence of its versatility, stainless steel is used everywhere – from daily life domestic tools to highly demanding industrial appliances. Its high strength and corrosion resistance make it the best choice for a wide range of applications, including those with highly specific requirements.
